Aeterna Noctis Sequel ‘Aeterna Lucis’ Launches December 3

Aeternum Game Studios has announced that the 2D action-adventure Aeterna Lucis, the sequel to Aeterna Noctis, will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on December 3, 2026, for $24.99.

The release follows an additional year of development after the team postponed the game. During that time, the developer reworked several technical and gameplay systems for the sequel.

Exploration will take place across interconnected areas without loading screens or separate scene transitions. Aeterna Lucis also introduces a real-time dynamic lighting system that interacts with environments, projectiles, weapons, and enemies.

The map system has also been redesigned. They provide miniature representations of individual chambers and their backgrounds to help players identify their current location.

Story and lore are presented through a stained-glass system designed to provide context for players who haven’t played Aeterna Noctis

Two difficulty options will be available. Aeterna Mode provides a more forgiving difficulty curve for its combat and platforming, while Lucis Mode is intended for players seeking tougher bosses and more demanding platforming challenges.

Aeternum Game Studios has also rebuilt elements of the console versions, including save systems, data handling, and platform-specific performance systems. The developer says these changes are intended to improve performance and controls across the console and PC releases.
