Free-to-play soccer game GOALS has rolled out its biggest update yet on PC and consoles, bringing a long list of changes built around feedback and lessons learned since the game launched. The update touches nearly every part of the experience with the developers hoping it gives returning players a reason to check things out again while making the game easier to jump into for newcomers.
Gameplay gets much of the attention with passing and targeting reworked alongside changes to defending, trapping, movement, tackling and physical play. Player switching and goalkeeper behavior have been cleaned up as well, while animations have received additional work to make matches feel more natural and responsive.
The AI has gone through a fairly significant overhaul too, particularly when it comes to how players move and position themselves around the pitch. Attacking runs should create better passing options, midfielders are expected to hold their positions more effectively and defenders should do a better job maintaining their shape, marking opponents and recognizing the offside line.
One of the bigger additions is 5v5 Ranked, where five players can team up with each person controlling their own character. Those who would rather play on their own can try the new solo 5v5 mode against bots, taking control of one character while playing alongside AI teammates through a six-match competition.
New players will find a completely rebuilt onboarding experience with interactive soccer tutorials designed to make learning the game a little easier. The update rounds things out with improved matchmaking, Swaps 2.0, progression and reward changes, Tournament adjustments, new challenges and plenty of smaller polish throughout the game.
For players who tried GOALS around launch and decided to give it some time, this is essentially the developers’ invitation to come back and see how much has changed. With so many areas getting attention at once, it feels less like a routine patch and more like a larger attempt to move the game forward. Check out the full patch notes below.

Progression & Aging
- Adjusted the player aging cadence as part of a broader progression rebalance, alongside improved rewards to give players more opportunities to strengthen and evolve their squads.
While we saw a lot of positive reactions to the announced aging change, we also saw plenty of negative feedback. We still believe the dynamic around aging needs to change, but it’s clear that moving directly from 7 days to 3 days isn’t what the majority of the playerbase wants, at least not in the way we implemented it. So we’re reverting the change and will revisit aging with a better plan.
