There is something wonderfully relaxing about watching the world roll past from the cab of a train – provided, of course, that you are the one responsible for keeping it moving. Train Sim World 7 is now available, bringing Dovetail Games’ latest railway simulation to Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
The latest instalment launches today in Deluxe and Ultimate Edition forms, while the Standard Edition follows on September 15th for £44.99. The Deluxe Edition costs £64.99, with the sizeable Ultimate Edition coming in at £114.99.

Three New Routes, Three Very Different Journeys
Train Sim World 7 heads in three directions with its new routes, giving players a mixture of British commuter rail, German services and American trains.
The Airedale & Wharfedale Network takes proceedings into Yorkshire, where the Northern BR Class 331 and LNER Azuma handle services through the region’s hills and towns.
Over in Germany, Bahnstrecke Nürnberg – Würzburg provides long-distance and regional services through Bavaria, with the DB BR 440 among the locomotives available to drive.
Then there is Florida Tri-Rail, bringing South Florida commuter rail to the series for the first time. The route covers Miami, Fort Lauderdale and beyond, with the Tri-Rail GP49 and CSX motive power adding an American flavour to proceedings.
Find Your Own Way To Play
The big theme for Train Sim World 7 is giving players more control over how they approach the simulation.
Simple Controls should make getting behind the controls less daunting for newcomers, while those who want the full simulation experience can still dig into the more detailed systems. Free Roam, Creators Club and Photo Mode also return, giving players ways to enjoy the railway without simply following a prescribed service.
Then there is Freight Hauler, a new mode that puts the emphasis firmly on moving freight rather than following conventional passenger schedules.
Live Weather is another new addition, bringing changing conditions into journeys. Sunshine, rain, snow and shifting cloud cover can all become part of the experience, potentially making familiar routes feel rather different from one journey to the next.
What About Train Sim World 6?
We’ve reviewed every Train Sim World game so far, so the annual arrival of another entry naturally raises the question of just how much has changed.
Our Train Sim World 6 review awarded the game 3.5/5, praising Dovetail’s continued work on the series while questioning whether a new instalment is really necessary every year. The new routes and trains were appreciated, as were the random events, although those events could become repetitive.
The hope was that the next game would push the franchise forward in a more significant way. With Freight Hauler, Live Weather and easier controls joining three new routes, Train Sim World 7 certainly has a few new ideas to bring to the cab.
All Aboard For Train Sim World 7
Whether you’re a dedicated railway enthusiast who knows your locomotives inside out or someone who simply enjoys the idea of a quiet virtual journey, Train Sim World 7 is once again offering plenty of ways to play.
The three new routes provide the headline attraction, but the new modes and weather system could prove just as important for keeping those journeys interesting. And with the Standard Edition still to come on September 15th, there’s another opportunity around the corner for anyone who wants to climb aboard without going straight for the bigger editions.
