Join The Blueberry Bulldogs And Take On The Hockey Godz

Shoresy: Legends of the North isn’t content with asking you to win a few matches and call it a season. Its Story Mode sends your created skater on a cross-country adventure alongside Shoresy and the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, with the rather ambitious goal of defeating the legendary Hockey Godz.

You’ll create your own player, improve their stats, unlock new gear and take on a series of increasingly difficult opponents. Each Hockey God has their own rink, specialities, stats and equipment, giving the journey a succession of challenges as you attempt to help the Bulldogs become the best in the North.

There are RPG elements running alongside the hockey action, too. Between matches, you’ll manage your gear and character progression, making this more than a straightforward arcade sports game. The original narrative is also built specifically for the Shoresy universe, giving fans a new story to experience rather than simply replaying familiar moments from the television series.

Shinny Mode Is Where Friendships Get Tested

If a cross-country campaign against supernatural hockey opponents isn’t enough, Shinny Mode brings the action into local multiplayer. You can draft a team of familiar Shoresy characters and go head-to-head with friends, with competitive and co-operative play giving you different ways to hit the ice together.

The controls are designed to be approachable, but that doesn’t mean matches will stay civil. Fight meters, power-ups, big hits and plenty of arcade chaos all contribute to the action. It’s the sort of setup that should appeal to anyone who remembers when sports games were as much about having a laugh with friends as mastering every last mechanic.

The developers cite classics such as Tecmo Bowl, Gretzky ’64 and NBA Street as inspirations, and that gives a good indication of the experience they’re chasing. This is hockey with an arcade sensibility, not a simulation demanding that you spend your evening studying tactics and line changes.

A Shoresy Adventure Built For Game Night

Treewood Games and New Metric Media have taken the personality of Shoresy and given it a new home beyond the television screen. The combination of a story-driven campaign, customisable characters and multiplayer hockey gives the game two distinct reasons to stick around, whether you’re chasing progression on your own or looking for a reason to gather friends on the sofa.

Shoresy: Legends of the North is out now on Xbox Series X|S (via the Xbox Store) and PlayStation 5 for £12.49, with the PC version already available through Steam, where it has received Mostly Positive user reviews. If the idea of taking the Blueberry Bulldogs on a mission to save the world sounds like a perfectly reasonable use of a hockey stick, it’s time to lace up and see how far you can take them.
