There are plenty of ways to approach a hunt in theHunter: Call of the Wild, but few are likely to be quite as smoky, loud and old-fashioned as that of the latest DLC – the Old West Weapon Pack.
The Old West Weapon Pack has arrived, giving hunters the chance to swap modern firepower for three 19th-century classics inspired by the firearms of the American frontier.
Available now for £4.19, the DLC brings a hard-hitting rifle, a double-barrelled shotgun and a single-action revolver to the hunting experience. Each has its own strengths, making this more than just an excuse to dress up your next expedition in Wild West style.

Three Guns From A Different Era
The Old West Weapon Pack is all about changing the way you approach the hunt. These aren’t simply three weapons with a suitably vintage appearance – each one brings its own handling characteristics and ammunition options to the table.
Hween .45-90 Buffalo
The star of the pack is the Hween .45-90 Buffalo, a single-shot rifle based on the iconic Sharps Model 1874. Designed around precision and stopping power, it is intended for medium-range hunting and particularly well suited to larger animals.
Its falling-block action and detailed animations help sell the period feel, while the adaptive dual-mode Buckhorn sight provides a more traditional way to line up a shot. Two telescopic sights are also available for hunters wanting to stretch the rifle beyond its iron-sight range.
The ammunition selection gives it some flexibility too. Cast Lead Flat Nose rounds offer an all-round option, while Soft Lead bullets deliver their biggest punch against large animals at around 100-150 metres.
Get Close With The Humphrey
If precision from a distance isn’t quite your style, the Humphrey 10GA Coach Gun takes a much more direct approach.
This double-barrelled shotgun fires heavy brass black-powder shells, producing a substantial spread and plenty of smoke with every shot. That combination makes it a weapon for getting close to your target rather than sitting comfortably at range.
The external hammers and partial reload system add to its tactile character, while the ammunition choices allow it to cover a surprisingly broad selection of prey. Birdshot is aimed at small game, Buckshot handles medium-sized animals through to bears, and heavy Slugs provide the serious stopping power required for larger game.
Just don’t expect the smoke and pellet spread to make every shot predictable.
The Maijo Brings Speed To The Frontier
Completing the trio is the Maijo .44-40 Special, a single-action revolver inspired by the Schofield.
Where the Hween focuses on power and the Humphrey demands close-range commitment, the Maijo instead puts handling and speed at the forefront. Its top-break design features an automatic extractor that ejects all six spent casings when the frame is opened, making reloading considerably quicker.
The revolver is designed for animal classes 2-5 and can be loaded with either .44-40 Black Powder or .44-40 Full Metal Jacket smokeless ammunition. The former delivers the distinctive low-frequency boom you’d expect from a black-powder firearm, while the latter offers higher velocity and a snappier recoil pattern.
A New Way To Take On The Wilderness
The Old West Weapon Pack should appeal to hunters looking for something a little different from the usual expedition. The three firearms cover very different approaches, from carefully placed rifle shots to devastating close-range blasts and a more nimble sidearm.
It also gives theHunter: Call of the Wild a chance to lean into one of its most atmospheric qualities. The slow, deliberate nature of hunting makes these old-fashioned firearms feel like a natural fit, particularly when a cloud of black-powder smoke hangs in the air after a shot.
We awarded theHunter: Call of the Wild 2021 Edition a 4/5 in our review, praising its slower pace, beautiful vistas and the careful approach required to get close to your prey. As we put it, “the slow pace and deliberate way you have to approach the hunts are a welcome change of pace from the frenetic games that frequent the marketplace.”
For £4.19 from the usual storefronts (like the Xbox Store), the Old West Weapon Pack offers another reason to head back into the wilderness – although this time, you might want to make sure there’s plenty of ammunition in your saddlebag.
