There are plenty of ways to spend time on Arrakis, but relaxing beneath the desert sun probably shouldn’t be one of them. Dune: Awakening is finally making its way to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with the open-world survival adventure also available on PC.
The standard edition costs £31.99, while Game Pass subscribers on Ultimate, Premium and PC tiers can join the journey from September 22nd.
Players who want to get started early can already access the game through its Deluxe and Ultimate Editions, both of which offer a five-day head start, starting right now.

A Different Kind Of Dune Story
Dune: Awakening takes inspiration from Frank Herbert’s universe and the modern film adaptations, but it isn’t simply retelling the familiar story. Instead, it asks a rather intriguing question: what if Paul Atreides had never been born?
That alternate history provides the foundation for a cinematic adventure in which players can align themselves with either House Atreides or House Harkonnen. Along the way, you’ll encounter familiar figures, investigate the disappearance of the Fremen and uncover the truth behind your own past.
Arrakis itself is the real star, though. From the Deep Desert and hidden Fremen caves to the streets of Arrakeen, the world offers plenty of space to explore, provided you can avoid the heat, sandstorms and creatures lurking beneath the surface.
Survival, Combat And Building Your Own Empire
Survival on Arrakis involves far more than finding somewhere shady to stand. You’ll need to manage the harsh environment, extract water and learn how to make the most of the planet’s limited resources. Exploration, crafting and base building all play a major role as you establish your own foothold in the desert.
You can construct anything from a small outpost to an elaborate stronghold, with different architectural styles allowing you to show some personality. Crafting machines, spice refineries and vehicles can then help expand your operations, including ground cars and ornithopters.
Combat also offers plenty of flexibility. Players can learn from the various Schools of the Imperium, unlocking different abilities, weapons and tools. The Trooper, Bene Gesserit, Mentat and Swordmaster each provide their own approach to dealing with Arrakis’ many threats.
Play Alone Or With Other Survivors
One of the biggest additions arriving with the console release is a full single-player mode. The entire game, including its story and features, can now be experienced alone, while private multiplayer and public servers offer other ways to explore.
Gameplay customisation also allows players to adjust elements such as harvesting rates, experience gain and death penalties. PvP is optional, meaning the complete adventure can be played through PvE if you would rather focus on survival, exploration and progression without other players hunting you down.
The console release includes more than the original PC launch, with additional story content, new maps, dungeons, weapons, dynamic encounters and progression systems. The endgame has also been rebuilt around missions and your rise through the ranks of House Atreides or House Harkonnen.
Deluxe And Ultimate Editions
The Deluxe Edition costs £58.49 and includes the five-day head start, the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a Sunset Dye Global Swatch, the first four DLCs through the Season Pass and Sardaukar Bator Armour.
The Ultimate Edition costs £74.99 and adds four individual DLC packs, additional vehicle and outfit swatches, a Caladan Palace Building Set, the Dune 2021 film stillsuit, a digital artbook and digital soundtrack.
After its console announcement back in 2022 and the confirmation of its Game Pass arrival earlier this year, Dune: Awakening is finally ready to let Xbox players take their first steps across Arrakis. Just keep an eye on the sand. And keep an eye out for our review too.
